The Challenge

The Challenge

LifeFlight is a world leader in aeromedical care and Australia’s most diversified service with both a fixed and rotary wing fleet. They bring emergency, lifesaving medical treatment to seriously ill and injured patients around Australia and the world. Lifeflight approached Lokava with the intention of developing a comprehensive fatigue management system for their medical team

The Solution

The Solution

The proposed solution would be used by medical staff on the go via a custom built mobile app with further backend management and reporting handled by a web based system. To facilitate this, the mobile app would utilise sleep data entered by doctors to perform a predictive fatigue calculation and provide an overview of fatigue progression over the course of the next day. The web based backend system summarises the data entered by doctors and also provides reporting functionality so that this information can be exported and analysed further. From a design perspective the goal was to ensure that the user experience of the mobile app was as simple and smooth as possible so that doctors could report on their fatigue quickly and efficiently whilst also tracking and managing their ongoing fatigue. Lastly, to make integration with Lifeflight’s existing systems even easier, Lokava implemented Azure AD sign in so that doctors could login to the system utilising their existing company email credentials.

Case Study

The Results

The system was initially deployed on a smaller scale basis with the pilot program being very successful. User feedback was captured and minor tweaks were made to the mobile app. In the following months the app was rolled out to the remainder of Lifeflight staff. Today, the Fatigue App management system has become a critical piece of Lifeflight’s service delivery and is continuing to help ensure that fatigue for medical staff is managed in comprehensive manner.
